TLDR Mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to skin aging and hair loss.
The study "The role of mitochondria in skin aging" aimed to determine the changes in mitochondria associated with aging in epidermal cells and the effect of mitochondrial dysfunction on aging phenotypes. The researchers compared young wild-type mice (3-month-old) and aged wild-type mice (25-month-old) to examine changes in the epidermis. They found that mitochondrial DNA content was significantly decreased in the epidermis from aged mice compared to young mice. Aged mice also had significantly reduced dorsal hair density and significantly delayed hair regrowth after depilation compared to young mice. Mice with dysfunctional mitochondria exhibited similar age-related phenotypes. These findings suggest that age-related mitochondrial dysfunction in the epidermis affects hair follicle maintenance and regeneration, indicating that mitochondrial dysfunction contributes to organ aging. Maintaining mitochondrial function may prevent age-related organ dysfunction.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

PP405 is a promising new hair loss treatment that may reactivate dormant hair follicles without side effects. It could surpass traditional treatments like minoxidil and finasteride if successful in further trials.

A study that outlines the full model for androgenic alopecia (AGA) which links DHT to cellular senescence in dermal papilla cells, and suggests black chokeberry as a source of cyanidin 3-O-arabinoside polyphenol with potential anti-oxidant properties that could reverse this process. The post encourages reaching out to experts in anti-aging and longevity to research treatments involving the polyphenol.

community If PP405 goes systemic this would be quite catastrophic

Concerns about the potential systemic effects and safety of PP405 for hair loss, with discussions on its comparison to existing treatments like finasteride and minoxidil. Users express skepticism about untested research chemicals and emphasize the importance of clinical trials to ensure safety and efficacy.
