TLDR Eosinophilic cystitis is often misdiagnosed, but accurate diagnosis and treatment improve outcomes.
Eosinophilic cystitis (EC) is a rare inflammatory bladder disease that is often misdiagnosed due to nonspecific symptoms and lack of distinctive imaging features. This case report discusses a 72-year-old male who was initially misdiagnosed with prostatic hyperplasia and a bladder tumor but was later confirmed to have EC through postoperative pathology. Treatment with transurethral resection and medication led to symptom resolution and no recurrence over six months. The report highlights the need to consider rare diseases in differential diagnoses and suggests that transurethral resection combined with drug therapy is effective for EC, with regular follow-up being crucial to monitor for recurrence and prevent upper urinary tract damage.
