A study from 5 years ago found that nanoemulsion formulations containing eucalyptol or oleic acid can improve the delivery of minoxidil to hair follicles, potentially enhancing its effectiveness in treating hair loss. Eucalyptol retained minoxidil in deeper skin layers, while oleic acid had the greatest hair follicle penetration. The study aimed to improve the delivery of minoxidil to hair follicles by developing and testing nanoemulsion formulations containing eucalyptol or oleic acid. The formulations were clear and contained surfactant, co-surfactant, and phosphate buffered saline. Minoxidil was dissolved in the nanoemulsion and control solutions. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings in vivo.
