TLDR DVI provides detailed 3D imaging of hair and shows how various products protect and enhance hair.
The paper "Microscopic high-resolution digital volumetric imaging of human hair fibers" discussed the use of Digital Volumetric Imaging (DVI) to examine cationic polymer deposition on six types of virgin hair, using fluorescent dyes to visualize deposition on damaged blond hair. DVI allowed detailed imaging of hair structures and creation of 3D models. The document also reviewed studies on hair care products, noting that antioxidants slightly protected hair from photoaging, silicones reduced color fading, a new emollient enhanced shine, arginine protected from oxidative damage, and new cationic polymers showed superior conditioning. The Bradford assay was recommended for quantifying hair protein loss, and enhanced delivery of Octopirox® in shampoo was demonstrated.
