TLDR The combined therapy of microneedling and light therapy effectively and safely promotes hair regrowth in trichotillomania.
This study explores the use of a novel combination therapy involving microneedling with growth factors and low-level light therapy (LLLT) for treating trichotillomania (TTM), a disorder characterized by compulsive hair pulling leading to hair loss. A 26-year-old female patient underwent this treatment twice weekly for four months, resulting in visible hair regrowth and improved scalp condition without any side effects. The findings suggest that this combined therapy is both effective and safe for TTM-related hair loss, highlighting its potential as an adjunctive treatment. However, further research with larger cohorts is recommended to validate these results.

Treatments for hair loss, including finasteride, dutasteride, minoxidil, ketoconazole, microneedling, and low level laser light therapy, which aim to reduce DHT production, increase cell absorption and blood flow, and stimulate epidermal stem cells. It also stresses the importance of patience when using these treatments.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.
