TLDR Microneedling may improve quality of life and reduce inflammation in frontal fibrosing alopecia.
This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of microneedling as an adjuvant therapy for frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) in 17 adult women. Over four monthly sessions, the frontotemporal recession remained stable, while there was a significant improvement in quality of life, as indicated by a reduction in the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) from 4.4 to 1.3, and a decrease in the Lichen Plano Pilaris Activity Index (LPPAI) from 1.5 to 1.1. No severe adverse events were reported. However, the study's limitations include a small sample size and the absence of a control group. Overall, microneedling showed potential benefits in improving quality of life and reducing inflammatory activity in FFA patients.
