TLDR Microneedling can effectively promote hair regrowth in alopecia areata.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of microneedling for treating alopecia areata in 20 participants aged 11 to 45 years. Weekly sessions over 8 weeks, with a 12-week follow-up, showed significant hair density and growth improvements. Specifically, 55% of patients experienced 75-100% hair regrowth, and 25% had 50-74% regrowth. Dermoscopic analysis indicated a reduction in alopecia markers and an increase in terminal hair. No significant adverse effects were noted, except for temporary discomfort. The study concludes that microneedling is a promising treatment for hair regrowth in alopecia areata, though further research with larger sample sizes is advised.
