TLDR Microneedling with oral collagen improves wrinkles better than microneedling alone.
The study conducted by Erika Santos Freire, Maria Cristina Vieira de Andrade, Monica de Albuquerque Costa, Hudson Caetano Polonini, Marcio Roberto, and Nadia Rezende Barbosa Raposo in 2019 evaluated the effectiveness of microneedling and oral collagen replacement as skin rejuvenation strategies. The study involved 30 volunteers divided into two groups: group one underwent two microneedling sessions and took oral collagen for 6 months, while group two only had two microneedling sessions. The results showed that group one had a superior improvement in wrinkles compared to group two (p = 0.032), and also showed improvement in skin texture, although this was not statistically significant. Both groups reported a high self-perception of improvement, but it was higher in group one. The study concluded that microneedling combined with oral collagen replacement can be considered an effective strategy for treating skin aging.
