TLDR 20% of patients with androgenic alopecia also had metabolic syndrome.
This study investigated the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among patients with androgenetic alopecia at a tertiary care center. Conducted from May 2021 to June 2022, the study included 60 patients with androgenic alopecia, excluding those on anabolic therapy, pregnant or lactating women, and those with psychiatric illnesses. The results showed that 12 out of 60 patients (20%) had metabolic syndrome, with a 95% confidence interval of 9.87% to 30.13%. The mean age of onset for androgenetic alopecia was 26.20 years. The study concluded that the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in these patients is consistent with findings from similar studies.
