TLDR Early screening for Metabolic Syndrome in hair loss patients can help prevent heart disease.
The study investigated the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) in 126 patients with Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) at a tertiary care hospital. The results showed that 29.4% of the patients had MetS, with significant associations found for obesity (52.4%), hypertension (35.7%), low HDL cholesterol (21.4%), hypertriglyceridemia (13.5%), and high fasting glucose (12.7%). The severity of AGA correlated with a higher prevalence of MetS and its components. The study concludes that early screening for MetS in AGA patients is beneficial to prevent coronary artery disease.
