TLDR Duodenal mucosal resurfacing did not improve insulin sensitivity or reproductive function in women with PCOS.
The study investigated the effects of duodenal mucosal resurfacing (DMR) on insulin sensitivity and reproductive function in 30 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), insulin resistance, and oligomenorrhoea. The randomized controlled trial found no significant differences in insulin sensitivity or reproductive outcomes between the DMR and sham groups. The results suggested that the improvements in glycaemia and insulin resistance observed in Type 2 diabetes patients post-DMR might be due to pathophysiological differences not present in PCOS patients. Further research was needed to confirm this hypothesis.
