TLDR Ovarian wedge resection helped regulate menstrual cycles but didn't significantly change hormone levels or hair growth in polycystic ovary syndrome.
The study investigated the effects of ovarian wedge resection on androgen status in 12 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. Adrenal disorders were ruled out, and patients underwent various hormonal stimulations before and after surgery. The results showed an insignificant reduction in 17-ketosteroid excretion and a continued stimulatory effect of hCG on ovarian androgens. Clinically, 10 patients experienced regular menstrual cycles post-surgery, and 3 became pregnant. However, hair growth did not slow, although its rate declined. Overall, wedge resection did not significantly alter the biochemical patterns associated with polycystic ovary syndrome.
