TLDR Mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis testis is rare, often high-grade, and has a median survival of about 24 months.
This study investigates mesothelioma of the tunica vaginalis testis (MTVT) in 14 patients, a rare condition comprising less than 1% of all mesotheliomas. The median age of patients was 65.5 years, with common presentations including testicular or scrotal masses and hydrocele. The study found that 11 cases were epithelioid type, with 6 being high-grade, and 3 cases were biphasic. BAP1 and MTAP loss were uncommon, observed in only 1 of 6 and 1 of 5 cases, respectively. The median overall survival was 23.9 months, with 4 patients dying from the disease, 2 from unspecified causes, and 3 remaining alive without evidence of disease. This research enhances the understanding of MTVT's clinical and pathological characteristics, emphasizing the high-grade nature of epithelioid MTVTs.
