TLDR Testicular microlithiasis may increase the risk of testicular cancer and patients with it should be closely monitored.
The study from 2007 investigated the link between testicular microlithiasis (TM) and testicular cancer, involving 14 patients, 13 of whom had testicular cancer. It found that TM was present in 53.8% of the cancer patients, with histology confirming microlithiasis in 69.2% of cases. Additionally, 92.3% of patients with testicular cancer had tubular hyalinisation. The study concluded that TM and poor sperm function are risk factors for testicular cancer, with ultrasound showing a high accuracy in detecting TM. The presence of TM may indicate a predisposing environment for cancer development, and the study suggests that patients with TM should be monitored clinically and through imaging. The authors recommend further research to confirm these findings.
