TLDR Women with PCOS experience more psychological symptoms and need emotional support.
The study assessed mental health in 31 women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and 31 healthy controls using the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90). Women with PCOS exhibited significantly higher psychological distress, with elevated scores in seven out of nine subscales, including hostility, anxiety, and depression, as well as in all three global indices. These scores were positively correlated with perceived stress and helplessness, and negatively with self-efficacy. The findings underscore the importance of providing emotional support and developing coping strategies for women with PCOS, highlighting the need for routine psychological evaluation in their management.
