TLDR Effective, well-tolerated, and affordable treatments are needed for recurrent ischemic priapism.
The document reviewed various treatments for recurrent ischemic priapism (RIP), a complex condition with severe consequences. Ketoconazole (KTZ) showed promising results in 96% of patients, while PDE5 inhibitors were well-tolerated but had limited efficacy. Finasteride and other hormonal therapies had mixed results and significant side effects. Intracavernosal α-agonist therapy was effective for acute episodes but not for prevention. The review emphasized the need for well-tolerated, cost-effective preventive strategies and called for further research and clinical studies to improve management protocols.
