TLDR Keratin film can effectively replace human hair for testing hair damage.
The study investigated the use of keratin film, prepared from human hair samples, as a substitute for human hair in evaluating hair damage. The keratin film was tested against physical and chemical stimulations such as UV, bleach, perm, and thermal treatments. Results showed that the keratin film responded similarly to these damage factors as human hair, but with significantly higher responses. This indicated that keratin film could be effectively used to assess hair damage, aiding in the development of hair care products.
