TLDR Loestrin effectively normalizes testosterone levels and improves PCOS symptoms with minimal side effects.
The study investigated the effects of a low estrogen-containing oral contraceptive, Loestrin, on 25 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The treatment successfully normalized elevated luteinizing hormone and testosterone levels, both total and unbound, while increasing testosterone binding globulin levels. Unbound testosterone levels began to decline within a week and normalized by 12 to 16 weeks. Additionally, participants experienced reduced hair growth and improved complexion within the same timeframe. The side effects of the treatment were minimal, suggesting that Loestrin was an effective and well-tolerated option for managing symptoms of PCOS.
