TLDR PAI-2 helps in the maturation and protection of hair and nail cells.
The study investigated the localization of Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor Type 2 (PAI-2) in murine hair and nail tissues, finding its presence in specific cell populations during different phases of the hair growth cycle and in various layers of the nail matrix. PAI-2 was consistently found in differentiating cells, suggesting it served as a marker for terminal differentiation and protected epithelial cells from premature death. This indicated a potential role for PAI-2 in the maturation and structural integrity of hair and nail cells.
