TLDR Eating habits may affect the duration of male pattern baldness.
The study, conducted from September 2010 to August 2012, retrospectively evaluated 347 male patients with Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA), the most common type of hair loss. The study found that AGA with paternal family history was the most common (49.9%), and both maternal and paternal family history was the least common (10.1%). Body mass index and smoking did not show significant differences, but eating habits did show a statistically significant difference according to the duration of AGA. Patients with longer disease duration (≥60 months) showed higher intake of meat but low intake of fish than those with shorter disease duration (<12 months). AGA patients also showed low intake of beef, beans, and squid compared to the average Korean population. The study concluded that further large-scale cohort studies are needed to define the causal relationship between eating habits and the development of AGA.
