TLDR Leporacarus gibbus mite was found in a domestic rabbit in Espírito Santo, Brazil, for the first time.
This study reported the first occurrence of the mite Leporacarus gibbus in a domestic rabbit in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. A 2-year-old male rabbit from a rural area exhibited symptoms such as intense pruritus, severe hair loss, crustal lesions on the ears, and desquamation. Microscopic evaluation confirmed the presence of L. gibbus, along with Cheyletiella parasitovorax and Psoropotes cuniculi. The rabbit was treated with ivermectin over six weeks. This case highlighted the poly-infestation of mites in the region and aimed to serve as a research tool for future studies.
