TLDR Lavender may help with relaxation, anxiety, and sleep, but more research is needed for other health claims.
Lavender, traditionally used for its therapeutic properties, was believed to aid in relaxation and treat various conditions such as parasitic infections and burns. Evidence suggested that lavender oil might have been effective in treating neurological disorders, with studies indicating its anxiolytic, mood-stabilizing, sedative, analgesic, anticonvulsant, and neuroprotective properties. It was commonly used for anxiety, stress, insomnia, depression, dementia, and post-surgical pain, although scientific support for many of these uses was lacking. Additionally, lavender was used in manufacturing for its fragrance and decorative purposes due to its anti-insecticidal properties and aesthetic appeal.
