TLDR Laparoscopic ovarian drilling improves menstrual cycles, hormone levels, and pregnancy rates in women with PCOS.
The study assessed the effects of laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD) on 169 women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who experienced anovulatory infertility. The procedure significantly improved menstrual regularity, reducing irregular patterns from 89.3% to 19.5%, and alleviated symptoms like hirsutism, acne, and scalp hair loss. There was a significant decrease in serum levels of LH, testosterone, AMH, FAI, and the LH/FSH ratio, while SHBG and prolactin levels increased post-operatively. Spontaneous ovulation resumed in 56.2% of participants, and the overall pregnancy rate was 26%. The study concluded that LOD was effective in improving hormonal profiles, restoring menstruation, and increasing ovulation and pregnancy rates in women with PCOS.
