TLDR Primary health physicians in Saudi Arabia need better guidelines for treating hair loss with vitamins and minerals.
The study assessed the knowledge and practices of 146 primary health care physicians in Saudi Arabia regarding the prescription of vitamins and minerals for treating hair loss. Results indicated low to moderate knowledge levels, with a mean score of 12.60 out of 36, and a mean practice score of 8 out of 15. Most physicians recognized the link between iron deficiency and hair loss, but there was a significant gap between knowledge and practice, particularly in prescribing biotin and vitamin D. Senior doctors were more likely to prescribe zinc compared to juniors. The study highlighted the need for improved education and training to align knowledge with clinical practice.
