TLDR Women know more about androgenetic alopecia than men.
The study aimed to assess and compare the knowledge of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) among 553 respondents, with 57.35% being men, across various age groups. Women were found to be more knowledgeable and interested in AGA than men, often seeking information from doctors, scientific literature, and cosmetology offices. While over half of the participants understood physiological daily hair loss and the definition of baldness, only 23.9% correctly identified genetic conditions as the sole cause of AGA. Misconceptions were common, with many attributing AGA to excess androgens, stress, medication, and comorbidities. Additionally, only 15.9% correctly identified the AGA phenotype, and men more frequently believed AGA should result in complete baldness.
