KF19418, a new compound for hair growth promotion in vitro and in vivo mouse models
April 2001
in “Journal of Dermatological Science”
TLDR KF19418 promotes hair growth similarly to minoxidil but is not better in live mice.
In the 2001 study, researchers discovered that KF19418, a new compound, stimulated hair bulb cell proliferation in newborn mice and promoted hair follicle elongation in 4-week-old mice, with effects similar to minoxidil in vitro. When applied topically to mouse models with alopecia, KF19418 accelerated hair regrowth at a rate comparable to minoxidil after 2 weeks. The study concluded that KF19418 directly stimulated hair follicles and promoted hair growth without causing skin abnormalities. Although KF19418 showed higher in vitro activity than minoxidil, its in vivo activity was not superior, indicating possible differences in absorption, metabolism, or action mechanism.
