TLDR A patient with pemphigus vulgaris improved significantly after treatment for an additional viral skin infection.
This case report described a 67-year-old male with pemphigus vulgaris who developed Kaposi varicelliform eruption (KVE) and presented with haemorrhagic crusted lesions. The patient was treated with oral acyclovir and systemic steroids, resulting in a 90% resolution of lesions within 2 weeks and almost 100% improvement within 4 weeks. The report highlighted the critical importance of immediate antiviral treatment to prevent mortality and morbidity in KVE cases and reviewed similar cases in the literature, emphasizing the effectiveness of combining antiviral therapy with immunosuppressants. Diagnostic tools such as PCR, viral culture, and histopathology were noted to be supportive in confirming KVE.
