TLDR Early diagnosis and treatment of Kaposi varicelliform eruption are crucial to prevent severe complications.
A 26-year-old man with pemphigus vulgaris developed Kaposi varicelliform eruption (KVE), presenting with high fever and multiple fluid-filled lesions. Examination revealed umbilicated vesicular lesions, severe facial edema, and patchy hair loss. Blood and pus cultures identified Staphylococcus aureus, and histopathology suggested herpes infection. The patient was treated with intravenous acyclovir, piperacillin-tazobactam, and linezolid, leading to healing with varicelliform scars. KVE, often misdiagnosed due to its similarity to underlying dermatoses, is a life-threatening viral infection requiring prompt antiviral and antibiotic treatment. Awareness and early recognition are crucial for effective management.
