TLDR Testosterone therapy can help postmenopausal women with low sexual desire if monitored carefully.
The International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH) released clinical practice guidelines for using systemic testosterone to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in women. The guidelines emphasized that testosterone therapy could be beneficial for postmenopausal women with HSDD, provided that the therapy is carefully monitored and tailored to individual needs. The recommendations were based on a thorough review of existing studies and clinical trials, which showed that testosterone could improve sexual desire and satisfaction in women with HSDD. However, the guidelines also highlighted the importance of considering potential side effects and contraindications, and they called for more research to better understand the long-term effects of testosterone therapy in women.
