TLDR Botulinum toxins show promise in treating various conditions, but more research is needed for hair and scalp disorders.
This Special Issue examines new therapeutic applications of botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs), particularly serotypes A and B, in treating various conditions. It includes 13 articles, with 10 focusing on humans and 3 on animals. Notable findings include BoNT/E's potential for managing chronic pain in rats, BoNT/A's role in nerve regeneration after injury, and its effectiveness in treating post-stroke spasticity. Additionally, BoNT/A shows promise in addressing movement disorders and conditions like Raynaud’s syndrome and psoriasis. However, BoNTs demonstrate limited efficacy for hair and scalp disorders, highlighting the need for larger, controlled studies to reach definitive conclusions. Overall, the issue enhances understanding of BoNTs' novel applications in improving human health.
