TLDR The guideline refines PCOS diagnosis, promotes a healthy lifestyle, reviews treatments, and stresses long-term follow-up.
The updated evidence-based guideline for PCOS from a Nordic perspective includes revised diagnostic criteria and emphasizes routine screening for mental health issues and eating disorders. It recommends lifestyle interventions and pharmacological treatments like COCPs and metformin for non-fertility features, with letrozole as the first-line treatment for anovulation. The guideline highlights the good prognosis for live birth and the need for age-appropriate reproductive health education. Developed with input from over 1,000 stakeholders, it also addresses the higher risks of pregnancy complications and long-term cardiometabolic diseases in women with PCOS, advocating for a holistic management approach. The guideline will be translated into Nordic languages and supported by tools like the ASKPCOS app.
