TLDR Combining conventional and Chinese herbal medicine could help treat some skin and hormone-related diseases.
The review paper discusses the potential use of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), specifically Chinese herbs, in treating certain dermatological and endocrine diseases. The authors highlight that Chinese medicine has been effective in reducing chronic urticaria activity and psoriasis area severity index. It has also improved the response rate and reduced the maximum nodule diameter of benign thyroid nodules. Additionally, certain Chinese herbs have been reported to improve the functioning of mitochondria in β-cells, contributing to better management of patients with diabetes mellitus. The authors conclude that Chinese medicine could be a valuable supplement to conventional medicine in treating some chronic diseases and emphasize the need for further research and development of high efficacy, low toxicity pharmaceutical products conforming to international standards.
