TLDR More research is needed to understand and manage rheumatoid arthritis better.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a prevalent autoimmune disorder with no effective cure, affecting 0.5% to 1.0% of the population, predominantly women, and peaking in older age groups. It involves genetic, environmental, and immune factors, leading to joint damage. The Innate Immune System (IIS) plays a crucial role in RA, but its exact functions and interactions with the Adaptive Immune System (AIS) remain debated. This review examines the IIS's regulatory effects and biological functions in RA, highlighting the need for further research to identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic strategies to improve disease management.
