TLDR Blocking SEPT4 might help heal wounds and regrow hair faster.
In vitro and mouse studies from 2013 indicated that inhibiting SEPT4 (Septin 4) could be beneficial for treating wounds and promoting hair follicle regeneration. Research on Sept4 knockout mice demonstrated that these mice had a higher number of progenitor cells, including hair follicle stem cells, compared to wild-type mice. Additionally, the Sept4 knockout mice experienced faster wound healing and hair follicle regeneration. The next steps mentioned in the study were to develop SEPT4 antagonists and assess the potential increased cancer risk associated with SEPT4 inhibition. The findings were unpatented at the time, and the mouse models were available for licensing.
