TLDR Fish oil increased cell growth and macrophages in the skin but didn't affect COX-2 expression.
The study investigated the effects of topically applied fish oil on GsdmA3^Dfl/+ mice, which exhibit psoriasis-like symptoms. Fish oil treatment increased epidermal thickness, cellular proliferation (Ki67), and macrophage presence (MAC-1), but did not affect COX-2 expression. Betamethasone dipropionate reduced epidermal thickness and cellular proliferation, while the combined treatment showed no significant difference from the control. The findings suggested that fish oil increases cellular proliferation and macrophages in the epidermis, but COX-2 is not involved in these changes, highlighting challenges in developing fish oil-based topical treatments for conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
