TLDR Ficus religiosa and Morus alba extracts improved hair growth and follicle regeneration in mice.
The research investigated the impact of Ficus religiosa L. (FR) and Morus alba L. (ML) on hair growth and follicle regeneration in BALB/c athymic nude mice. Three mixtures of 5% aqueous fractions from the leaves of both plants were topically applied for 33 days. The results showed that all treated groups had significantly more anagen phase hair follicles than the untreated control group. Furthermore, the expressions of CD34, CD200R, and Oct4 genes, linked to stem cells, were upregulated in all treated groups. The study concluded that therapy using either fractions of FR or FR and ML enhanced hair growth and follicle regeneration by inducing the anagen phase and upregulating stem cell-associated genes.
