TLDR Physical activity significantly improved symptoms of PCOS in a patient.
The case report highlighted the significant impact of physical activity on a 24-year-old woman with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), who was part of a double-blind, randomized study on the effects of metformin. During the study, her menstrual cycles became regular, and her testosterone levels normalized. Despite some weight gain during the placebo period, her fasting blood glucose levels continued to decrease. The improvement in her condition during the placebo period was attributed to increased physical activity, motivated by her relationship with a sports enthusiast. This case underscored the importance of physical activity and social support in managing PCOS, suggesting that lifestyle changes can be more effective than medication in improving insulin resistance.
