Exploring the Bidirectional Impact of Gastrointestinal and Rosacea Treatments on Comorbid Patients: A Multi-Center Health Records Analysis

    安正 柚久保, Anna L. Chien
TLDR Treating gastrointestinal issues can reduce rosacea flares, and treating rosacea can lower gastrointestinal problems.
This study analyzed the impact of gastrointestinal (GI) and rosacea treatments on patients with both conditions, using data from 124,465 patients across 78 healthcare organizations. It found that treating GERD significantly reduced the likelihood of rosacea flares (18.7% in treated vs. 32.7% in untreated), and treating rosacea slightly reduced the odds of subsequent GERD. Similarly, treating IBD reduced rosacea flares (24.1% in treated vs. 33.2% in untreated), and rosacea treatment lowered the odds of subsequent IBD. These results highlight the importance of addressing GI conditions in managing rosacea and vice versa, offering new insights into the gut-skin axis and comorbid patient care.
