Use of Intramuscular Triamcinolone Acetonide in Intermediate Responders to Janus Kinase Inhibition for Alopecia Areata: Case Report

TLDR IMTA can help regrow hair in severe alopecia areata when JAK inhibitors don't work well.
This case report described the use of intramuscular triamcinolone acetonide (IMTA) as an adjunct treatment for two patients with severe alopecia areata (AA) and alopecia totalis (AT) who were intermediate responders to Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors. Both patients, a 33-year-old female with patch type AA and a 23-year-old female with AT, showed significant hair regrowth (>50%) after receiving a single 60 mg dose of IMTA, with no adverse effects reported. The findings suggested that IMTA could be a beneficial adjunct therapy for patients with AA and AT who do not achieve substantial regrowth with JAK inhibitors alone.
