The study from 2015 examined the effects of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum (CZ) and Polygonum multiflorum (PM) extracts on hair growth in nude mice, which are genetically prone to baldness. The mice were treated with these extracts, a vehicle solution, and Minoxidil for 40 days. Results indicated that the CZ extract was more effective than Minoxidil, as evidenced by a higher hair score (2.5±0.29) and an increased number of hair follicles (58.66±3.72) in the CZ-treated group. Immunohistochemical analysis showed increased keratinocyte proliferation in the hair follicles of both CZ and Minoxidil groups. The study concluded that CZ extract could be a promising treatment for alopecia, as it promotes hair follicle restoration by inducing keratinocyte proliferation. The exact number of mice used in the study was not mentioned.
