Prevalence of Hypothyroidism Among Patients Attending Clinics at Tripura Medical College & Dr. B. R. A. M. Teaching Hospital, Agartala, Tripura

    The study conducted at Tripura Medical College in Agartala, Tripura, assessed the prevalence of hypothyroidism among 2,824 patients. It found that 16.60% of the patients suffered from hypothyroidism, with a higher prevalence in females (18.15%) compared to males (12.45%). Additionally, individuals over 50 years old had a higher prevalence (20.55%) than those under 25 years old (11.90%). This study was the first of its kind in Tripura and highlighted the need for more research to establish a national prevalence, as hypothyroidism is a significant health issue with symptoms like weight gain, fatigue, and hair loss.
