TLDR Hydrogel microneedles offer a painless, effective way to treat skin disorders.
Hydrogel-forming microneedles (HFMNs) are a promising non-invasive technology for managing dermal disorders by delivering drugs directly to the skin with minimal pain and discomfort. Made from biocompatible polymers, these microneedles swell upon insertion, creating microchannels for controlled drug release, which enhances treatment efficacy and patient compliance while minimizing systemic side effects. They have been used to deliver various therapeutic agents, including insulin and vaccines, and are effective in treating conditions like acne and psoriasis. Despite their advantages, challenges such as mechanical strength and manufacturing scalability remain. Future research aims to improve hydrogel compositions and production methods, expand their medical applications, and integrate smart delivery systems to enhance their functionality.
