TLDR Both enzyme forms can sulfate minoxidil.
The study investigated the role of thermolabile phenol sulfotransferase in the sulfation of minoxidil, a hair growth stimulator, using a human liver cDNA clone. It was previously thought that only the thermostable form of the enzyme catalyzed this reaction. However, the research confirmed that the thermolabile form also sulfated minoxidil, similar to its activity with dopamine. This finding suggested that both enzyme forms should be considered when assessing the contribution of human tissue sulfotransferase to minoxidil metabolism.
