    The study investigated the use of human hair keratin (HHK) as a scaffold for peripheral nerve regeneration in SD rats with a 10 mm sciatic nerve gap. The results showed that HHK supported the growth of Schwann cells and nerve fibers, with significant degradation and integration into the tissue over 12 weeks. By the 6th week, there were numerous S100 positive cells and NF positive fibers, and by the 12th week, distinct myelination was observed. The study concluded that HHK had a controllable degradation rate and good biocompatibility, making it a promising scaffold material for peripheral nerve tissue engineering.
