TLDR PRP therapy is effective and safe for treating hair loss, increasing hair follicles and reducing hair loss after at least 4 treatments.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, originally from sports medicine, has been used to treat hair loss. PRP, which contains 3-5 times more platelet content than regular blood, is extracted from the blood and injected into the scalp. It stimulates hair growth by attracting stem cells, reducing inflammation, and increasing circulation to hair follicles. Most patients undergo 4 treatments, 6-8 weeks apart, with follow-up sessions every 6-12 months. A 2014 study found PRP therapy to be effective and safe, with high satisfaction rates among participants who had at least 4 treatments. Participants experienced a significant reduction in hair loss and an increase in total follicles per treated area.
