HISTOPATHOLOGIC FINDINGS OF ALOPECIA AREATA IN VIETNAMESE PATIENTS

Cuong Trieu Dung, Ha Vu Thai
TLDR Histopathological examination is essential for diagnosing alopecia areata.
The study on Vietnamese patients with alopecia areata involved 35 participants and focused on histopathological characteristics. Key findings included the presence of peribulbar lymphocytic infiltration in 100% of acute stage slides, with eosinophils present in 22.8% of specimens and vacuolization and necrosis in 14.3%. The study highlighted that histopathological examination is crucial for diagnosing alopecia areata, revealing more than just peribulbar lymphocytic infiltration, such as the percentages of different hair follicle types and variations in histopathologic traits across disease stages.
