TLDR The herbal extract SHJ promotes hair growth and increases melanin production.
The study investigated the effects of an ethanol extract from a medicinal herbal mixture (SHJ) on hair growth and melanogenesis in C57BL/6 mice and melanoma cells. Mice were treated with SHJ, a vehicle (CON), or 5% minoxidil (MNXD) for 15 days. Results showed that both SHJ and MNXD significantly increased hair density and thickness compared to the vehicle. SHJ also promoted the expression of IGF-1 and VEGF while reducing TGF-β1 expression. Additionally, SHJ increased melanin content and tyrosinase activity in a dose-dependent manner. The findings suggested that SHJ could be a valuable component in cosmeceuticals for enhancing hair growth and pigmentation.

Rosemary extract showed high inhibitory activity against DHT, similar to finasteride and dutasteride, but the conversation includes skepticism about its effectiveness in humans since the study was done on mice and rosemary oil is often considered ineffective based on personal experiences. Some suggest trying rosemary oil alongside other treatments, while others emphasize the difference between the extract used in the study and the oil.
