TLDR Older East and Southeast Asian men need less hair density for hair restoration satisfaction, and natural hairline features should guide surgery plans.
The study analyzed the hairlines of 209 non-balding East and Southeast Asian men aged 18 to 85 from Singapore and surrounding areas to inform hair restoration surgery practices. It found that 85.7% had no family history of hair loss, hair density decreased with age (average of 77.8 FU/cm² and 110 hairs/cm²), and the height of the hairline remained consistent across ages. Common hairline shapes were upsloping or straight, with 47.4% having a widow's peak and 66% lacking lateral mounds. The frontotemporal angle was round in 62.2% of participants. The study concluded that older men require lower hairline densities for satisfaction and highlighted the importance of considering natural hairline characteristics and future hair loss when planning hair restoration surgeries.
