TLDR Hairless dogs can be used to study human hypertrophic scars.
The study explored the use of hairless dogs as a model for human hypertrophic scarring by creating full-thickness wounds on their dorsolumbar skin. The resulting scars were similar to human hypertrophic scars, showing hyperpigmentation, increased activated melanocytes, and collagen and elastic fiber remodeling. These results indicated that hairless dogs could be a suitable model for further research on hypertrophic scarring in humans.
