TLDR The shampoo with grapefruit peel and Gleditsia sinensis helps mice grow hair faster, more, and longer.
The study conducted by Nguyễn Phạm Hồng Thanh and colleagues evaluated the hair growth stimulating effects of a shampoo containing essential oils from grapefruit peel and Gleditsia sinensis on a model of shaved white mice. The shampoo was formulated from grapefruit peel essential oil extracted by steam distillation and dry Gleditsia sinensis extract. The study used 7-week-old male white mice, which had their back hair removed. Minoxidil 5% and saline were used as controls. The shampoo, minoxidil, and saline were applied once daily on the shaved area after bathing with clean water. The results showed that hair in mice using the shampoo started to grow 2.5 days earlier than in mice not using it (p=0.014). The length of the mouse hair increased by 0.328mm (p=0.005) in mice using the shampoo. The researchers found that using the shampoo increased the number of mouse hairs by 8.25 strands/3.75cm2 (p=0.004). The conclusion was that the use of shampoo containing grapefruit peel essential oil and Gleditsia sinensis in mice showed that the shampoo has the ability to improve hair condition, helping hair grow faster, more, and longer.
